Origin and LeadershipThe broader Navajeevan
institution was founded on October 2, 1979, by Dr.
K. Sridhar Acharya, an Indian Army veteran. After
temporarily losing his sight during his service in
Kashmir and subsequently recovering it, he swore
a lifelong oath to serve the visually impaired and
helpless. The organization was established with
blessings from Mother Teresa and the Kanchi
Kamakoti Peetham, evolving over decades into a
massive multi-service charitable campus.
The old age home focuses on holistic care,
ensuring that elderly residents live out their silver
years with comfort and respect:
Free Boarding and Lodging: The ashram
p r o v i d e s c l e a n , s e c u r e r e s i d e n t i a l
accommodations for destitute seniors, orphan
women, and elders with no source of income.
Nutritional Care (Nitya Annadan Scheme):
Residents receive three healthy, vegetarian
meals a day. The kitchen balances nutrition to
cater to age-related dietary requirements.
Integrated Medical and Eye Care: Because the old age home operates under the same umbrella as the Navajeevan
Charitable Eye Hospital, residents have immediate access to healthcare. Regular check-ups, geriatric care, and free
specialized eye treatments (including cataract surgeries) are readily available on-site.
